Crafting with Rachel

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I haven’t had anytime to share anything lately. We’ve been busy packing and cleaning and my in-laws were in town the past two weekends. We’ve also been selling  a lot of furniture to decrease the labor for the move – mostly to a sweet lady that used to watch my son Liam at the daycare and her daughter. Diane’s granddaughter, Rachel, is only 9 and took a keen interest in my blog and videos. I hear that she spends hours watching my videos and is wanting to stamp. She is so very sweet and I love that she is so interested in crafting.

Diane and I set up a time this week for Rachel to come over before I finished packing up my crafting supplies to make a few cards. I first want to share with you a few cards that Diane shared with me that Rachel made from watching my videos:

The first card she cased is from my Chance of Rain Post – Here Rain or Shine, which you can see here.

IMG_1110 Chance of Rain 2

Isn’t that cute??? I was soooo impressed!

The second card she cased is from my Happy Pandas post, which you can see here.

I feel like I cheated because I used stamps and dies to make my cards and she didn’t! She’s so crazy talented for a girl her age – and I seriously wish I had been introduced to this art when I was 9! Apparently, she has made more than just the two I’ve shared here.

Before she came over, I decided to make a quick card for her using an alphabet balloon stamp set and dies that I got from Mama Elephant – I’ll add links below. I used some copics to color the animal from the Tandem Extras set (also by Mama Elephant). It’s nothing fancy (most of my things are already packed away)…but here’s the card I made to thank her for spending time with me and encouraging her to stay crafty:

Rachel 2

We had such a great time making cards together. Since she had seen so many of my videos – she was already familiar with some of the products and techniques (tehehe…). I had picked out a bunch of stamp sets I thought she might like to use, but she ended up choosing her own – which really surprised me (in a good way)!

On the first card she made, we used some zig clean color markers to create a background and embossed the sentiments in black. She chose the colors for the background – I have to admit – I would not likely put these colors together but I think it turned out great and I need to be more like Rachel!

Rachel 1

For the second card, she wanted to use the One with Nature stamp set to create the card I made in this post. Rachel’s card is on the left. Again, she chose all the colors.

Rachel’s got amazing talent at her age and I hope she continues to explore it! I’m so proud of her and am very glad I was able to do this with her. I feel like I’m a nobody, but it makes me happy that I’ve touched this little girl.

We are wrapping up our packing and will be leaving Ohio in exactly a week. We found a house in Kansas City but are working to get our home in Ohio sold. Please continue to send prayers and good thoughts our way – I really appreciate them!

Here’s my craftroom all packed up. Bitter sweet – but I plan on shopping at IKEA when we get back to KC for some great storage units for my new craftroom! I hope to get set up as soon as possible so that I can start crafting and sharing again!

Congratulations – Watercolor Wedding Card

========================LIFE UPDATE ============================

Is everyone jumping out of their seats to hear why I’ll be MIA for a while? HAHA…It won’t affect you, I promise (unless you’re dying for my regular 2-3 posts a week – in which case, I’m very flattered!). We learned two weeks ago today that there was a residency position open in Kansas City where we are from. If you don’t already know, that’s sort of the reason why we ended up here in Ohio 13 months ago. My husband had high hopes of matching into an anesthesiology program and it didn’t work out. So he accepted a 1 year internship here…then signed on as an Internal Medicine resident to complete his training here. We had every intention of staying for the next 3 years….until that call came 2 weeks ago. We did landscaping (planted 5 great big trees in the back yard), was planning on fencing and a pergola, and had just finished adding cabinets and granite to our kitchen when the news came the SAME day.

I kid you not…here’s a photo to prove it (please excuse the ‘before’ mess):

PhotoGrid_1436842040456

After being let down so many times, we decided we wouldn’t get our hopes up…but that we would pursue it and see where it would lead us. As it turns out…they REALLY want him. He flew to KC on Tuesday and had the formal interview yesterday and signed the paperwork. It’s been a whirlwind. In two weeks, we have cleaned and packed up about 1/3 of our belongings in order to list our home for sale. It’s been on the market since Friday. We’re hoping for a quick sale, but regardless, we are leaving in a few weeks as soon as we can find a home in KC. My older boys need to be able to start school on time (it’s a goal, at least). I will need to take a few weeks off work for the move and because of this, I won’t be able to craft.

I’ve been crafting completely and utterly alone for the past year. My husband says that he could’ve saved us all this trouble to start with if he had just aimed for Family Medicine or Internal Medicine instead of Anesthesiology…but I know in my heart that the past year has done some great things for me. I’ve been able to learn the art of card-making and I’ve been able to clear my head and my heart of past hurts. I feel like I’ll be returning to KC a new person…with very definitive boundaries. I’ve made promises to myself that I won’t let people affect me the way they have in the past. I know it’s easier said than done…but I need to find a way to be mentally healthy like I have been this past year.

I hope you’ll keep us in your thoughts and prayers through this crazy time. It’s something we want, but it’s also very scary. I know you’ll understand that I won’t post any crafts for at least 2 weeks 🙂

==============AND NOW FOR MY CARD =============

I needed to make a quick card for someone this week, so I used a stamp set called Congratulations by Simon Says Stamp – it’s older, but it’s new to me – and I love the font to this large sentiment.

Congratulations - Wedding 3

I used Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers to achieve the watercolor look that you see here.

Congratulations - Wedding 2

I heat embossed and used a few sequins to finish this card.

Congratulations - Wedding 1

I just love the gold over this velum!

I hope you’ll enjoy this video tutorial!

Unforgettable – Fuse Tool Shaker Card

Hi Everyone!

I finally got a Photo Fuse Tool and I’m so excited to share what I’ve made using it. I’ve been stalling because I was hoping it would be available in local craft stores for purchase and then I’d be able to use a 40% off coupon but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen in a while Jennifer McGuire made the cutest shaker card in her post here. It convinced me I needed to go ahead and buy it. Ahhh!

So I’ve created a low-bulk shaker card and it was so much fun to make!

Unforgettable - Fuse Tool Shaker Card 3

The stamp set is from a WPlus9 set called Unforgettable and I used a balloon die cut from Stampin’ Up! for the shaker portion. The embellishments and sentiment is also from the same stamp set.

Unforgettable - Fuse Tool Shaker Card 1

It’s so cute even though I felt like I had no idea what I was doing as I was doing it.

Unforgettable - Fuse Tool Shaker Card 2

I can’t take enough photos sometimes.

Here’s my video if you want to see the process and how I store the fuse tool:

Best Birthday (Clearly Besotted)

CB Best Birthday 1

This balloon stamp set by Clearly Besotted is adorable! It’s so much fun and I love what Jennifer McGuire did with it recently. She made a clear shaker card that was out of this world. If you want to see it – you need to visit her site. Her post for the clear shaker card can be seen here. I would totally case that card if I didn’t feel the need to be original for my own blog :). She also convinced me that I needed to have the Photo Fuse Tool now rather than later. I’m excited to use it but I need to work up the nerve.

CB Best Birthday 2

I had no idea what I wanted to do with this set. Originally, I had stamped it on a piece of Neenah carstock and was just going to color it and stamp a sentiment and leave it at that. But then I decided to cut them out and die cut clouds for a background.

CB Best Birthday

Here’s my video for this card. Enjoy!

Chance of Rain – Here Rain or Shine

Chance of Rain 2

Hi There!

My posts may be a little less frequent for the next two months – sorry! I don’t have details yet on what’s happening or how quickly things will happen, but as soon as I’m able, I will definitely post something to update everyone. I usually don’t make videos in advance. I get a chance to craft for 30 minutes every other day, but the video editing part takes a few hours (I have to edit and I have to find a quiet time to narrate – usually during the day when my youngest is at daycare). I also have to create supplies lists for both my blog and videos. I love sharing the videos – so they are definitely worth it to me – but for the next several weeks, my time will be very limited. I hope everyone understands!

Chance of Rain 1

I’ve got a cute card here using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. Nichol Magouirk has made tons of cute cards using this set and I just couldn’t resist. I got it last week and wanted to make something with it right away. I’m no where near as talented as her – but practice makes us better, right?

I decided to stick to primary colors. I know that these markers are pricey – so I wanted to use colors that everyone can have if they buy the 12 marker set. They are definitely cheapest on Amazon and you may have to wait a few weeks if they are shipped directly from Japan – but I promise they will be well worth the wait!

Chance of Rain

I also felt that the yellow raincoat and mat cardstock brings out the encouragement in what could be a very dreary stamp set. I hope this card makes you smile. My husband says he likes it because there’s not too much going on. I don’t feel like there’s always too much going on in my cards since I have no idea what I’m dong 90% of the time. 🙂

Here is my video. Enjoy!

One With Nature

When I saw the One With Nature stamp set by Simon Says Stamp, I knew I had to have it. I love how whimsy the leaves are – and the ability to stamp them in any color for layered effects.

The card I made for today was quick one. I used a lot of different colors, but it went pretty fast! I chose softer colors (this is me to the core).

One With Nature 1

As always, I created as I went – stamped them in random places and also decided I wanted to make a tag as an accent piece. I also felt it was missing some bold color, so I added a strip of washi.

One With Nature 2

Here’s my video for this card – ENJOY!
