Plaid Birthday Card

Happy Friday and Happy Halloween, Everyone!

I decided to do something different today and stay away from any holiday themes. I’m sure many of you have seen too many of those lately and I know I’ll be making lots of holiday cards soon. Having said that – I got this plaid inspiration from a few holiday cards I’ve seen lately! Kristina Werner used watercolor to create her plaid background and My Favorite Things featured a plaid card using gold foil.  I’m going to keep it simple and use stamping only :).

Plaid Birthday 2

I used 4 colors and I really don’t think you should use anymore than that – it makes it far too complicated.  The plaid design can be done anyway – as long as you keep the square pattern consistent with each type of line design (stamp thickness) that you use. As always, I did not do a test run and just started stamping. So I know that you can do this too!

Plaid Birthday

I stamped one color/stamp at a time and then decided to add a border of dots using a die from Mama Elephant. To make the sentiment pop, I used the MISTI to line it up and to stamp twice to ensure good coverage of ink and embossed it.

Plaid Birthday 1

Pretty Pink Posh has new embellishments called Clear Droplets – they have some height to them and are really pretty! They do roll around a bit though there is one flat side to adhere to your project. To help me put them on the card without them rolling all over and getting adhesive all over them, I used the Pick Me Up Tool. See below for the full list of supplies.

I made this card for my friend, Tiffany, who I’ve known for more about 13 years. She just go married recently so I decided to use a basic alphabet stamp set to create a box of monogrammed cards for her.  The stamp set I used is by Stampin’ Up! and is called Sophisticated Serifs. It’s no longer available but you can really do this with whatever alphabet sets you may have. Here’s a photo of one of the cards I made for her. I used my MISTI and got them done pretty quick!

Tiffany and Brian Monogram Card

Both cards were very quick card and and easy to make. I hope you liked the plaid background! Here’s my video for this week:

Reindeer Games Pulled Spinner Card

Happy Friday, Everyone!!!

I’ve been trying to do things I haven’t done before lately and interactive cards have my attention! Last week, I made a spinner card using invisible thread in an open window.  Today’s card is a pulled spinner card which I think you’ll love!

These reindeer from Mama Elephant are tooooo cute!

Reindeer Games Pulled Spinner Card 4

I used distress ink for the background to make them playful in the sky.  I had no idea what I was doing and just went with it.  See those clouds? I got that look from water at the last minute. Then I added faux stitching using a White Sakura Gelly Roll pen to add some dimension. Another unintentional thing I did.

Reindeer Games Pulled Spinner Card 3

The pulling mechanism is made using a brad and some Stampin’ Dimensionals. You’ll have to watch the video to see how it’s done…..

Reindeer Games Pulled Spinner Card

I have to admit – it took me an hour to pull this card together. But keep in mind – I had no plan when I started and it took me a while to cut apart the matching dies (getting tiny shards of steel in my arm and fingers – WHY do they come this way!?!).

I hope you’ll watch my video! Please hit like on YouTube and subscribe if you are not currently a subscriber to see each week’s video!

Peaceful Pines Spinner Card

Hi Everyone!

I’ve been loving the idea of making a spinner card it and took me a while to decide on a theme for this card. I needed to find an image that is symmetrical and I talked myself into making another holiday card using this Peaceful Pines stamp set by Stampin’ Up! It has coordinating dies (Perfect Pines) and is symmetrical so it was what I needed for this card.

Perfect Pines Spinner Card 3

I used distress ink to add color to the card base and the front panel – I love the way distress ink reacts with water droplets – it almost gives it a bokeh look.

Perfect Pines Spinner Card 1

It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do but once I decided – this really was a quick card.

Here’s my video if you’d like to watch the process – I hope it inspires you to make a spinner card this weekend!

Winter Scene Window Card

Hi Everyone!

It’s FRIDAY! YAY! I’m excited that I got to craft tonight, but I also feel extra rushed to get this posted now because I also have to work tomorrow. 😦 boo….

I’m using Stampin’ Up! products for today’s card.  They’re new products from this year’s Holiday Catalog that I haven’t played with yet.  Seems like everything is centered around the holidays now and it’s coming  a lot faster than I want. I don’t know about you – but thinking about making a ton of holiday cards kinds of brings me anxiety – not to mention the presents, wrapping and trying to keep everyone happy!

Let’s focus on happy things, shall we? This card makes me happy – it feels so peaceful!

Winter Scene Window Card 2

I stamped my trees and I guess the ink was still a bit wet when I started blending the blue background – so it was completely unintentional that some of the red from the brown Early Espresso ink that I used bleed and created this soft pink background around the trees.  It ended up looking sooo pretty!

Winter Scene Window Card 3

I tried to keep it looking realistic by trying to make it look like a window scene – but I couldn’t help but add some texture/snow to the card base.  Who has snow on their walls? Ok…maybe I shouldn’t get too literal about a window scene.

Winter Scene Window Card

Here’s a closer look at the window scene:

Winter Scene Window Card 1

I love heat embossing. It just makes everything look pretty and soft. Here’s the video if you’d like to see the process:

Thanks for stopping by!

Fall Leaves – White Space Card

Hi Everyone!

I guess my card making is going to be a weekly thing for now ;).  I’m a part of the Live Love Cards Community – so for the October Challenge, which is “White Space”, I decided to make a simple fall card using some die cuts.

Fall Leaves

Darlene Devries who is the owner of LiveLoveCards.com is such a fabulous cardmaker – she’s humble and extremely friendly and I love her videos. There is a small fee to join the community but I assure you, it’s completely worth it! I have trouble with white space too – but I think it’s easier than some of us think to call it done and walk away. I love how this card turned out and I hope you like it!

Fall Leaves 3

I used distress ink to pick up color for these leaves and also used distress ink to blend a green background for the leaves.

Fall Leaves 2

The sentiment is from a Stampin’ Up! Set called For All Things which is still available.  I’m glad it was carried over from last year’s holiday catalog.

Fall Leaves 1

I finished off the card by adding some shimmer to the leaves using some Wink of Stella (I used gold at first but ended up like clear better).

Here’s my video if you want to watch the process. This was a really quick and easy card to do!
