Week 3 of the 30 Day Coloring Challenge

Hi Everyone!

I honestly cannot believe I’ve kept it up with this coloring challenge.  How amazing that you can really do what you love if you make it a priority! I’m sure that after this challenge is over, I’ll find it less motivating to make the time to craft.  It has been amazing.  I’ve created cards doing things I haven’t done in a long time.  Some cards are more challenging than others but I’m finding that no matter how the card turns out – there are so many wonderful people encouraging and supportive of my work.  THANK YOU, everyone!  I’ve gained so many followers on Instagram as a result and I feel so honored and blessed!

Lets go ahead and dive right into week 3’s cards!

Day 15:  Monstrous Birthday

Monster Love 1 copy

This stamp set came highly recommended by Jennifer McGuire and I had to have it (imagine that).  😛  It really is a fun set.  I recently did a shaker card using some solid stamps but these ones are fun when you have time to color.  If you’re interested in purchasing – you can check it out here.  Oh…just FYI – I don’t have any affiliate links – I’m not too sophisticated with all that!  The googly eyes really make this card fun!

Day 16: I’ll Stand By You

I'll Stand By You

This Flamingo Together stamp set is one of Lawn Fawn’s mini stamp sets. I really love these mini stamp sets – and I think they fill a 4-bar sized card just perfect.  I did some masking and ink blending to create this card using distress ink.  The fussy cutting isn’t so bad when you cut off their legs and stamp it back in ;).

Day 17:  Octopi My Heart

Octopi My Heart 1

Another mini set by Lawn Fawn!  When I prepared for this challenge – I pulled out a lot of images and Lawn Fawn just has the cutest little outlined stamps.  If you’re interested in this set – you can see it here.  This card is really simple – I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do with it – so I went with a dry-embossed panel.  Simple and cute!

Day 18:  Hang In There

Hanging Sloth

Okay…you guessed it! Another Lawn Fawn set.  LOL – I have so many that are sitting there and silently calling my name.  I’m honestly so excited that I got to use all of these stamp sets!  This one can be viewed here.  Very similar to the card above, I did a simple window with a dry-embossed panel on top.  This time, lightly brushing some ink to add more interest the woodgrain.

Day 19:  Glad We’re Friends

Glad We're Friends 1

This Snuggle Bunnies set by MFT can be found here.  It’s an adorable set with several bunnies and teddies.  I did some ink sponging on the white panel and softened it with some vellum.  The black and white strip of washi tape on the left helps fill up some white space and ties the black sentiment banner together.

Day 20:  Out of This World

Out of This World Birthday

This is a full stamp set by Lawn Fawn and can be found here.  There are so many little images to color but I limited myself.  The background is created using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and I used Copics to color the stamped images.  It’s so stink adorable and so easy to create!

Day 21:  Chunky Monkey

Miss Hanging Out With You

I was browsing SSS one day and came across this monkey stamp set.  I’ve never purchased Sugar Pea Designs stamps before but this one was too cute to pass up. If you’re interested, you can view the item here.  I limited myself on the number of images for the coloring challenge – but this stamp set comes with lots of different monkeys and they are all super fun!

There are only 4 more days to this challenge!  I’ll be back to share the last 9 cards next weekend.  Have a wonderful week, everyone!

Week 2 of the 30 Day Coloring Challenge

Hello!

I’m back to share the next 7 cards for week 2 of Kathy Racoosin’s 30 day coloring challenge!  I have been dedicating myself to coloring a little bit everyday. I’ll admit I don’t have the time to color every day, but when I do, I try to double up so that I can account for missed days.  It’s so nice to have something to look forward to every day – if I’ve colored, I can at least put a card together a feel the joy of completion.  Let’s dive right in to the cards and images I’ve colored:

Day 8:  So Much Cake, So Little Room

Birthday Bear 1

I love this Beary Special Birthday stamp set by My Favorite Things.  These bears are adorable.  I used my favorite color on this card and I may be selfish and never give it away! I added some dots to the cake using a Copic 0 marker – gives it some detail and it’s so pretty!

Day 9:  Sending Hedgehugs

Hedgehugs slider

I made a very similar card to this for Splitcoaststampers last spring. Since I’m coloring smaller images, I’m finding that 4 bar-sized cards are perfect!  This Hedgehugs stamp set by Lawn Fawn is very affordable and I think everyone should have it!

Day 10: Just a Little Note

Birdie Note

So coloring little chicks aren’t too exciting – but putting this card together was really fun!  I’ve seen projects with this same chick colored in several different colors and they’re all cute! This Birdie Notes stamp set by Pretty Pink Posh is also a smaller set at a great price point!

Day 11:  Birthday Dogs

Puppy birthday

My friend, Bonnie’s birthday was last week.  I asked her what her favorite color was and what animals/critters she liked.  She said hunter green and dog.  Boy……I had no idea what I wanted to do to put these two elements together!  The gate that you see is a stamp from Hog Heaven by My Favorite things and the dog is from Lunar Animals by Mama Elephant.  I stamped and colored the same dog 3 times and colored them different ways.  I’m no artist when it comes to dogs so forgive me if you don’t think those dogs look good.  I wanted to scrap it several times!  I think it turned out pretty cute though.

Day 12:  Mondo Magnolia

MondoWatercolor

I colored these magnolias using distress ink using watercoloring as my technique.  This Mondo Magnolia stamp set from Ellen Hutson is just STUNNING.  It stamps simple but the wow factor incredible with any coloring medium you choose!

Day 13:  It’s Always More Fun When We’re Together

Farm Frients

When I pre-stamped all these images prior to starting the challenge – my intention was to color ONE image – but I couldn’t just make a card with one farm animal!  This is a new stamp set by My Favorite Things called Farm Friends.  I’ve seen several farm animal sets and this one made me cave – I finally purchased one I really love!

Day 14:  Have a Ball!

Have a Ball 1

This Sweet Smiles stamp set by Lawn Fawn is another great value!  It stamps simple but you can do so many fun things with it!  My 4 year old LOVES gumball machines and when he saw this card, it disappeared from my craftroom.  It’s all bent up and well loved in his bedroom now.

I hope you enjoyed this post!  See you next week for another update!

Week 1 of the 30 Day Coloring Challenge

Hi Everyone!

I’m so proud of myself for actively participating in Kathy Racoosin’s 30 day coloring challenge.  I honestly had NO intent of making a card for each day – but I can’t stop at just coloring.  I have trouble with leaving things unfinished.  So I made a card every day this week.  If you missed my first card – check it out on my previous post.  This post will highlight the 6 cards I made this past week – without a list of supplies but I’ll talk a little about each and at least give you a link to the direct manufacturer for the stamp sets used!

Day #2: You’re Stinkin’ Cute

Stinkin Cute 1

So….the only thing colored here is that cute little skunk.  This stamp set is by Lawn Fawn and you can check it out HERE. I used Copics and let me just tell you.  I LOVE Copics, but blacks and reds scare me…a lot. The potential for bleeding gives me anxiety while coloring. I used dark grays and black here and it turned out great but it still made me nervous.

Day #3:  Party Animal

Giraffe Baby

I’m a little confused about the name of this stamp set – because this giraffe is too cute and innocent looking to be a party animal.  It is adorable none-the-less!  The set is by WPlus9 and you can view the item HERE.  I colored this again with Copics and added some distress ink to the background.  This was my most boring card….dum dum dum…..

Day #4 Thanks a Buschel

Bushel of Apples 1

Lawn Fawn stamps make me happy. You can view this one HERE. These stamp sets are smaller and the price point is wonderful.  I colored this with Copics.  Added some distress ink in the background.  You’re going to start noticing a trend here on my favorite card making supplies ;).

Day #5:  Happy Mail

Sending Love and Hugs 1

I don’t know what took so long for me to need THIS Mama Elephant Incoming Mail stamp set in my life. A small stamp set is awesome but a larger stamp set with a bunch of little images scare me? But this card just proved me wrong….it has been a favorite this week.  By the way – because these images are smaller – most of my cards are 4 bar sized cards (3.5″ x 4 7/8″).  I’m falling in love with this size…seriously.  Takes out so much brainwork for me to not have to fill in white space!

Day #6:  Roses for You

Heart Bouquet

I got sweet text from a neighbor this week who asked me to make a card for his wife – just because.  Isn’t that sweet? So I knew THIS Roses for You stamp set by Simon Says Stamp would be perfect.  I tried hard to be like Kathy here – she loves her Uniball Signo White Gel Pen.  I have a Sakura Gelly Roll pen and it serves the same function – but it truly transforms images and adds depth to your coloring!

Day #7: Fairy Friends

Fairy Friends 1

Another adorable Lawn Fawn set that you can view HERE. I changed it up this time and used my Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils.  I haven’t used them in so long!  As I was fussy cutting these images, the flowers and fairy wings curled and it gave me an idea to double stamp and layer them.  You can’t tell too well from the picture above, but the wings and flowers actually are not adhered to the card front.  They are stamped underneath and colored as well to match the “floating” image above them.

I hope you enjoyed these cards.  I’ll be back next week to share 7 more cards.  On Monday – I have a surprise for you all (which may be more of a tease and I’m sorry about that, but it’s exciting for me)!  Stay tuned!

XOXO,

caly-sig

Day 1 – 30 Day Coloring Challenge: Pretty Peony

challenge_graphic-mar16_plain-650-1

Hi Everyone!

Last night before bed, I stamped 30 images. I went through all my stamps and pulled out all my outlined stamps that I decided I would want to color for Kathy Racoosin’s 30 day coloring challenge.  There are stamps I’ve never used before and as I was stamping these images, I felt sooo much better about using them for this challenge.  They won’t be trashed – I am inspired to make cards out of each and every one of these images.  The idea for this challenge is just to color a little bit everyday.  It doesn’t have to be extravagant and you don’t even have to finish.  It’s about finding time to bring yourself joy and to get better at coloring in the process.  We have such a wonderful community of crafters who are doing the same and encouraging each other along the way.  I’m GLAD I actually have every intention to playing along every day.

At lunch today – I picked out my first image.  It’s the first day of the challenge and I wanted to do something pretty.  One thing led to another and before I knew it – I was cutting out the image and stamping some more leaves and then I was inspired to make a full card.

peony-bouquet-30-day-marker-challenge-3

I stamped a few leaves/berries on top of a light blue sponged background and propped the gold frame up using some foam tape. I decided my flowers and leaves needed something more so I chose a darker pink/red and dotted my peony. It looks interesting – but I also feel like I gave it a disease.  Ugh…hate it or love it?  Then I took my white jelly roll pen and decided to add some lines and dots to the leaves to finish off the card.

Definitely room for improvement with these dots – and possibly the wrong image for this technique.  But hey…that’s what this challenge is for, right?  Try new things and see what works for you!

Kathy Racoosin is an amazing artist.  If you’ve never heard of her before or want to read more, you can click on the 30 day color challenge poster above and it will take you to her blog.  I hope you enjoyed this card!  I’ll be sharing more throughout the month but guarantee I won’t have time to make a card EVERY DAY!  🙂

XOXO,
