Floral 40th Card-in-a-box

Hello again!

Today is my neighbor and friend, Kerri’s birthday! I’ve been working for a few weeks now what I’m going to do for her 40th birthday. I’ve gotten a few new stamp sets and really wanted to use them. I started out with the Foxy Friends stamp set and Fox builder punch from Stampin’ Up!’s new catalog.

I put together a few foxes using the fox builder.

img_5906

They’re super cute but at this point, I had not decided what I wanted to do yet. Then I started playing with the Foxy Friends stamp set. I stamped a bunch of images – then used my Brother Scan N’ Cut 2 to cut the images out. No more fussy cutting (unless I don’t feel like starting up the machine).

img_5907

Once I got all of this cut out – I KNEW I wanted to do a card-in-a-box.  Ah! It’s been a LOOONNNG time since I’ve made one and I got really excited!

There are MANY templates on pinterest. Here’s the one I made for myself (please note that the height of the box should be 5.5 inches – not 6. Sorry for my typo! card-in-a-box-pop-up-template (click to view).

Here’s my card – It’s so cute! While I was putting it together – I decided that this card is not suitable for a 4oth birthday, but I knew exactly which direction I wanted it to go and who I wanted the recipient to be.

Adorable right?! And full of encouraging sentiments. I hope the recipient enjoys it!  Now – how about that 40th card! I wanted to change it up a bit for more display space – so I looked for a tutorial on how to make a card-in-a-box card that sat on it’s side (aka – a rectangle card-in-a-box.  For the card below – the box is made using a base that’s 4 1/4 x 12″, scored at 2″, 5 1/2″, 7″, and 11″. Turn 90 degrees and score at 2″.  The 2″ flap once you cut them down will be the top part of the card that folds down.  For the inserts, cut 2 4 11/16″ x 1″ strips and score at 5/8″ from each end.  If you’d like detailed video – here’s one I watched: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/239042692697550254/.

I had no idea what I was going to do for this card – so I went to my stamp stash and started pulling all things floral and butterflies.  😀  Here’s what I came up with! I hope you LOVE it as much as I do!!!

kerri-40-card-in-a-box-2

Don’t worry! As always – the supplies will be listed below. This was NOT as difficult as it seems. I felt that the Foxy Friends one above was more difficult! The gold on this card just speaks for itself so I didn’t feel the need to decorate the other flaps.

kerri-40-card-in-a-box

Kerri loves blush pink, tiffany blue and gold – so I tried my best to incorporate these colors.  EEEK!!! I cannot WAIT to give this card to her!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KERRI!

Spring Flowers on Vellum

Hi, Everyone!

So sorry it’s been a while since I last posted here! I’ve been working overtime and trying to fulfill my commitment with Splitcoaststampers to design cards for the next 5 months. I’m just about done for this month so I thought I’d squeeze this card in for my personal blog. If you want to see my work for Splitcoaststampers, you can check it out HERE – each month’s designs will be released/featured on the 15th of month.

For today’s card, I’m coloring using Copic makers on vellum. It creates very soft colors and is beautiful! There’s not much to it!Spring Flowers on Vellum 2

I heat embossed my stamped images using some white embossing powder -then flipped it over to color on the back (this keeps the embossed image from ruining  the nibs on your alcohol markers).

I layered it on some white paper to make the colors pop.

Spring Flowers on Vellum 3

I also add some sequins to embellish it – here’s a close up! Isn’t it pretty?!

Spring Flowers on Vellum

The border is done using a Wonky Stitched Rectangles die set by My Favorite Things. The only thing I wish I could change is not adding adhesive to the border – which caused it to ripple and warp. It’s still pretty and is something I’ve learned for next time.

Supplies are listed below. If you’d like to watch the video – here it is:

Doodle Buds

Hello again!

I thought I would make a quick card to stay up to date with LiveLoveCards‘s monthly challenges.  I do one every month but am way behind this month.  I think I had a hard time deciding what to do because there were so many options this month. I chose this one because I’ve never done a diagonal layout before. The black border there is a Darlene trait! I usually don’t make things pop with black or colored cardstock – but I should! It’s definitely something I need to get used to doing more.  Darlene’s card was colored using distress inks. I used all Copics here.

Doodle Buds 3

I wanted the background of this diagonal piece to have some color, so I used a lighter shade of each element and burst the color out to where they met with another color. I’m just glad it turned out the way I had hoped!

Doodle Buds

This stamp set is called Doodle Buds by WPlus9 – it’s such a simple set but I’ve seen Kathy Racoosin do some beautiful coloring with it. I thought I would try to be adventurous. The sentiment is also from the same stamp set.

Doodle Buds 1

Kathy loves to add highlights to her flowers using a white pen – so I tried to add some of that here also. I really think it makes a HUGE difference! It really adds a lot to the images on this card.

Doodle Buds 2

I didn’t make a video for this card – it takes a long time for me to choose colors as I’m working since I didn’t plan ahead this time but I’ll list all the colors below. I hope you liked this card!

Everyone loves flowers, right?!?

This Many Thanks set by Simon Says Stamp is one of the more simple layering stamp sets that I’ve seen and is the only one I could muster myself to get so far. I shouldn’t be intimidated because it’s not all that hard – but usually, the stamps are outlined to group which stamps are recommended for use together – this one doesn’t. eek! That’s ok…it just means you can do whatever you what….right? RIGHT? LOL.

Many Thanks 3

Um…yeah…I think I may have thrown together a few combinations that aren’t meant to be…but it still looks pretty!

Many Thanks 1

I added some sequins – I think it finishes off the card really nicely.

Many Thanks

Many Thanks 2

Here’s me fumbling around to get this card together – I used something different this time. Instead of using the MISTI – I used a Martha Stewart Stamp Mount. So you can definitely do this without a MISTI! OR…you can just use acrylic blocks. No need to get fancy. I have the stamp mount and have never used it before. So I thought it would speed things along since I was stamping the same color for more than one stamp at a time (but you can do this with a large acrylic block too!)
