Christmas Lip Balm Tags

Hi Everyone!

Christmas is quickly approaching and I wanted to use a snowflake stamp set that I recently got by My Favorite Things.  There are so many Christmas and holiday products released every year.  It’s hard NOT to buy any even though I already have a lot that I can use each year.  When MFT released their lip balm products, I thought they were so much fun and had to get them!

I got this homemade lip balm from my friend, Tiffany – who uses real Beeswax.  Thought it would be fun to try it out.  I only bought 8 and didn’t save any for myself…so I hope the recipients like it!

I also got to play with Distress Oxide Inks. I’ve had them a while and a lot of things have been pushed aside or put away on my desk.  I need more time!!!

Christmas Lip Balm Tags 1

These colors are so vibrant!  I’m used to controlling the ink saturation and like things really pale, but it’s hard to do that with Oxide Inks.  Regardless, it really did blend on the paper like butter and was fun to use!  I sprayed them with water droplets and then used white craft ink to stamp the snowflakes for a soft wintery look.

I used some tag dies to cut 2 tags from each piece duplicates in white for a backing.  I cut the frames out of gold glitter paper and added a zipper detail to the back of each tag so that the recipient can pull it apart to retrieve the lip balm – thanks to Stephanie Klauck for this awesome idea!

Christmas Lip Balm Tags

I’m doing a Christmas Sock exchange with some friends this year so I thought I would make a little something for each lady.  Hope you enjoyed this project!  This is definitely an all-occasion project!

Christmas Lip Balm Tags 2

Have a wonderful Christmas if I’m able to share another project before then!

XOXO,

2017 Holiday Card

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

I honestly cannot believe that the holidays are HERE!!!  Sorry for being MIA recently.  We took some time off work to take the kids to Disneyland – our first family vacation in 3 years!  It was truly an adventure with all the craziness we went through!  I did a few cards prior to vacation and didn’t get a chance to share those – so they will be shared towards the end of this post.

When we got back from vacation, I started work on my holiday cards for this year.  I had a hard time deciding what to do this year, so I stalled.  But I think it ended up working out!  I have been using the previous year’s holiday stamps on current cards a lot.  I have no time to play with anything new, it feels like!

2017 Holiday Card 2

I knew that I wanted to use the Holiday Style stamp set from Sunny Studio.  It’s such a great layering set that creates great dimension.  There is a very realistic bell in the set.  For my card, I chose to use the ornaments because I wanted the focal point of the card to be similar to an ornament.

2017 Holiday Card 3

If you haven’t seen a card like this before – it’s an interactive flip card!  You can definitely make this by doing some partial die cutting with any shape you’d like.  Since I had to make 70 cards – I opted for using the die.  Stampin Up made (it is now a retired product) a Circle Card Thinlets set that makes this super easy.  They seem to have the copyright for the straight corners because I couldn’t find another like it under the Sizzix brand (they also manufacture dies for Stampin’ Up!).  Anyway – Sizzix has these “Flip-Its” dies in other shapes and sizes.  If you want one similar to what I used – you’ll have to be ok with rounded corners (which I initially purchased by mistake).  I will like that alternative below.  I actually found the Stampin’ Up! die on Ebay.  Be on the lookout for a good deal.  Stampin’ Up! prices are often outrageous on Ebay with retired products!

2017 Holiday Card 1

The die actually only cuts the card base without the extra flap on the right that you see.  I had to cut my card base a little shorter in order to slide the cardstock over the end of the die so I can have this extra panel.  To see what I mean, you can take a look at this YouTube video by another crafter.  I wanted to make a video for this card, but unfortunately, there’s something wrong with my editing software right now.  It’s disappointing because I have not made a video in a very long time!

2017 Holiday Card

I got 140 photos printed at Walmart and punched them out using a 2 1/2″ circle punch – die cutting all of those photos would’ve been painful considering I ink-sponged 70 card bases, stamped 5 branches, 2 ornaments (requiring 4 different layers), and the sentiments on each card!  This is truly an annual labor of love!

My favorite thing about this card?  Its ONE layer (except for the photos I attached) with lots of stamping!

Now for some cards I made prior to my vacation.  I made 4 wedding cards! One was for someone who reached out to me from Australia – how cool is that?

Congratulations Money Card 2

I watercolored the background using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers using the “swooshing” method with acetate and embossed the bold sentiment over the center.  The velum banner is stamped using Staz-On ink and dots heat-embossed with gold.  She wanted it to hold money, so I made the card longer.

Wedding Slider Card

Wedding Slider Card 1

Speaking of money – I also made a money holder for another wedding we went to.  This one is a slider card with a pocket.  The pull out tab just has slots to hold the money.

Wedding Cheers

The final card is made using Nuvo texture paste – which I’ve never played with before.  The dies for the sentiment, wine bottle and glasses are all from My Favorite Things – such clever designs!

Rose Wonder Die Inlay 3

Last but not least, I have die cut shaker card.  I can’t get creative with glitter anymore when my friend asks me to make her a card with lots of glitter….I can’t say I was really happy or excited about this card – I almost didn’t share!  But we’re all here to share strengths and weakness, right?  HAHA.

Alrighty – I think that’s it!  Thanks for sticking through this one!  I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving!

XOXO,

caly-sig

Holiday Photo Card Blog Hop!

blop-hop-header

Hi Everyone!

I’m so excited you’re here to hop along with LiveLoveCard’s Holiday Photo Card Blog Hop.  This is the first one that I’ve ever been a part of and I am so honored!  I’ve made holiday cards for the past three years and have always included a personal family photo with each and I’m excited to share my card this year as a part of this blog hop.  There are 11 total hop stops so please hop along when you’re done here and view the other cards to get ideas for your own cards this year!  It’s not too late!  And of course…leave a comment to be entered for a chance to win some amazing prizes! Darlene (the owner of the LiveLoveCards community has 9 prizes to share) -details are below!

2016-holiday-cards-7

My card is a case of one of Concord & 9th’s cards using their Take a Bough dies.  I got this set last year and didn’t get a chance to use them and I really love the card I saw.  I’ve added my own touches with an embossed snowfall background and tag with hollies and berries.  Each piece is heat embossed for a raised look. It’s simple and straight forward but really screams holiday.  When making cards in mass production, it’s quickest to do each step individually and then assemble at the very end when each component is complete.

2016-holiday-cards-1

First, I cut out all my boughs/pines.  This part, I have to admit…is painstaking long.  I used 3 different shades of green cardstock, more than 2 full sheets each (8 1/2 x11). I cut them down to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 pieces to make it easier to run through my big shot…but can you imagine?! 8 pines for each card – that’s 4 boughs – for 64 cards!  *GASP*  I found myself very frustrated but here’s a tip I decided to try towards the END of this long process.  The paper doesn’t release from the dies well after a few cuts.  I was using my paper piercing tool to push them out and ending up tearing a lot so I took a dryer sheet, folded it three times and ran my dies through my die cut machine. This gives it a nice waxy coat and they release from the die SOOOO much easier.  Ugh…I wish I had done it sooner!

2016-holiday-cards-2

Once they were all cut, I cut them in half and started grouping 4 random pieces together and used my handheld stapler to hold them together. This was the quickest for me. If you have a better way of holding 4 pieces of this together – by all means – do it!  And tell me about it because I’d like to know!

Next, I prepared my tags (I couldn’t decide between white and red so I did both) by cutting pieces that were 2″ by 2 1/2″ (this is a little snug…if I could do it again, I would do 2 1/2″ by 2 1/2″). I stamped them all in batches using Versamark ink and embossed the white pieces with red powder and the red pieces with white powder.  Then – you die cut them all…Yes…I did it 64 times.  *sigh*  BUT THIS IS WORTH IT!

2016-holiday-cards-4

2016-holiday-cards-3

I tied some red and white twine to the tags and then stamped a bunch of hollies and berries (holly and berries?) on white cardstock and ran this through my Brother Scan N’ Cut 2 so it can cut each piece out for me.  Seriously ya’ll…this is the BEST birthday present ever – put it on your Christmas wish list!  Mine was purchased on Amazon but it’s available in stores at Michael’s now!  NO MORE FUSSY CUTTING!  It scans anything flat and cuts it out – perfect for stampers.  Just so you know – I’m not getting paid to brag about this amazing product!  I wish I were ;).  So I adhered these hollies and berries to the tags and to add a bit more umph…I used some red stickles on the berries.  I’m impatient – but I laid them all aside to dry as I stamped and embossed the cards with snowfall.

2016-holiday-cards

Once the card bases themselves were stamped and embossed, it was time for the assembly.  Put the boughs on, leaving room in the center for your tag.  I adhered the boughs on using glue dots and adhered the tags on using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

2016-holiday-cards-5

I didn’t do anything too clever with my photo this year – last year I sewed it to my card.  If you’d like to see it, click HERE. I got some clear photo corners and adhered them to the inside top portion of my card.  I’m not fancy – I make my own collage using PhotoScape and then I print them via Walmart online – it’s the cheapest option and they have a photo size of 4″ x 5.33″ – fits perfectly in an A2 card with a nice matt around the photo.

2016-holiday-cards-8

I got a custom stamp made this year for our names – saves me from writing the same thing so many times!  I have used this Etsy shop many times for my “handmade by” stamps and address stamps and I love it!  It does take a few weeks to get as it is made and shipped from Malaysia – but it’s affordable if you have time to wait.  The link is listed below with all of my supplies. I plan to hand address these in calligraphy and hope these get mailed to be received by Thanksgiving.  HAPPY HOLIDAYS, everyone!

That wraps up this year’s photo holiday card for me.  Thank you sooooooo much for being a part of this blog hop and for stopping by!

HERE is the video of the process if you’re interested in seeing it.  Please give me a thumbs up!

Ready, Set, Snow

Hi all! Finally – a NEW card!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I had that week off work and it seemed to fly by with all the preparations for the holiday! I was hoping to get some crafting done and I really didn’t do everything I wanted to do. I spent one day shopping, one day baking and ALL day Wednesday cooking for my family of 30+. It was a lot of work – they came, they ate, they left – and because I’m a complete sucker for whatever makes my kids happy, I had 6 boys here that night and the next night. PHEW! Overall, it was a very pleasant holiday despite all the work.

I gathered all my holiday cards for Iliana at My Sweet Petunia (photo on the left)- hoping they will make someone’s holiday brighter this year -and also wrapped up the Share Handmade Kindness Challenge with Jennifer McGuire (that’s a box of cookies to the right). I also completed my second-ever card order. I re-created 3 card designs (5 each) and had it shipped out that weekend (below).

IMG_0840

I also spent some time earlier this week making an Advent calendar – see my last post. OK….so maybe I DID do a lot – it just didn’t seem like it.

So how about that NEW card? I have so many stamp sets that I love that are starting to pile up! This Ready, Set, Snow set is one that I really want to use before Christmas – it comes with matching dies – one for the stamps and another for a shaker. I didn’t get the shaker dies so I had to get creative to make my own here.

Ready, Set, Snow 1

I used a circle die to cut out the window using partial-die cutting. Hey – I saved myself 27 dollars not buying that shaker die!

Ready, Set, Snow 2

I stamped and colored everything using Copic markers, cut them out, then layered them on a plain white piece of cardstock cut to the shape of the snow globe (colored with a soft blue for the background first), added sequins and beads, then enclosed it with the shaker portion.

Ready, Set, Snow 3

When I make purchases from Lawn Fawn directly, they always send a little thank you gift – a small stamp or some free samples of Lawn Fawn Paper – so I decided to use it on this card to give it some color.

If you’d like to see how I created this card, please watch my video below:

Thanks for stopping by!

Share Handmade Kindness Week 4

I feel bad for missing week 3 – but I just couldn’t get my kids involved last week for the challenge.  This week’s theme is sharing handmade kindness with strangers.

SHK-blog-badge

Simple notes or cards are the simplest things to give to strangers – so I made three quick holiday cards to put on strangers’ windshields tonight when my family and I went out to grab a quick dinner tonight.

SHK Week 3 -1

This Mama Elephant stamp set is so cute and I wish I had more time to jazz it up, but this was the best I could come up with in 15 mins.  My youngest, Liam, had been out with us all day grocery shopping for Thanksgiving and missed his nap. So while I was making these cards, he fell asleep in a little armchair behind me.  It was quite a funny sight!

SHK Week 3

I definitely used my MISTI tool to make the stamping consistent with each of these cards.  The MISTI has saved me so much time recently with making my batch of personal holiday cards.

SHK Week 3 -2

Nothing too fancy, but I enjoyed the time I had to create.  After the initial curses under their breaths, I hope these strangers will realize what was left on their windshields were meant to make them smile and bring them some peace after their long days. 🙂

I really hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! I’ll be baking all day tomorrow – enjoy whatever it is you are doing! I’m so grateful to be off work this week!

My 2015 Holiday Card

Happy Thanksgiving week, Everyone!

I always try to get my holiday cards out every year before Thanksgiving. Each year, I try to send a photo in some way. Since I only started crafting last fall, this is my second year making my own holiday cards. Last year, I inserted a photo with the card. This year, I made the photo a part of the card. This card is inspired by the card Jennifer McGuire made last year. The idea is the same, but the personal touches are different

Xmas Card 2015 3

I made 75 of these. I started off by cutting all the velum and cardstock to 4.25″ x 5.5″. My sister in law took our photo for us (bethanywearsphotography.com) and I printed them at Walmart.com and had them shipped to my house – nothing too fancy.  I used Simon Says Stamp’s Stitched Rectangle dies to cut out each photo (that was crazy of me). Then I ran all the red cardstock through my printer to add a personal message on the inside. Once this was done, the stamping began.

Xmas Card 2015 7

The MISTI was really helpful for this assembly line – it helped me stamp everything in the exact same place for each card and I highly recommend this tool if you don’t have it already. I did all the stamping for this gold sentiment and embossed all 75 pieces of vellum first, then I worked on the light string at the top.

Xmas Card 2015 6

I alternated between using red embossing powder and stickles for the lights.  Again, I embossed all 75, then add stickles and let them dry.

Xmas Card 2015 4

Once the vellum pieces were done, it was time to put my cards together. I sewed the card together using my sewing machine. A paper clamp is handy if you’re afraid of not lining the cards up perfectly before running it through the sewing machine.

Xmas Card 2015 1

I’m so glad I got them all done and in the mailbox this week. If you’d like to see the process, please watch my video and/or check out Jennifer McGuire’s video here.

Festive Flurry

Hi There!

Every month, the LiveLoveCards community has a monthly challenge and I always try to be a part of it – it gives me inspiration for a card and makes me think about the next project a few days in advance. This month’s challenge is SNOWFLAKES! So I pulled out this Festive Flurry set that became available through Stampin’ Up! two years ago. It’s now retired but I feel so fortunate that I was able to get these last year during Stampin’ Up!’s holiday sales!

Festive Flurry 1

Don’t be fooled by this card! It really wasn’t hard to make. I think the part that took the longest was the distress ink blending – haha. I stamped a piece of Neenah White cardstock with a Falling Snow background stamp in Versamark ink, covered it in pearl white embossing powder, then heat set it. Then I covered the panel by blending with Shaded Lilac distress ink.

Festive Flurry 2

The snowflake itself is layered with different sizes of the snowflake (from the bottom) in Dusty Concord ink, silver embossing powder, Seedless Preserves ink, and Shaded Lilac Ink. Lots of dimensionals used! I also added the ribbon between the first two snowflakes at the bottom to give it an ornament feel.

Festive Flurry

I hope you like it! All the supplies will be listed below. Here is my video if you’d like to watch it come together:
