Valentine’s Waterfall Card

If you love glitter and interactive cards – this one is for you!  I’ve been wanting to make an easy waterfall card but have been a little hesitant to try it. Lately – it seems like I can only get myself to craft if it’s a commissioned project.  Mostly though, I just don’t make the time to play like I used to anymore.  These projects have felt more like work, but still fulfilling to say the least.

adore-you-waterfall-card-1

I had quite the time with the pull tab – the interactive part of this card. I think I cut and scored each 3 times before I finally got it right. I had to make sure the hearts all sit inside inside the glitter frame. There are lots of different directions that can be found on pinterest – I think you need to to just adjust it a little bit for your card since each flipped panel will vary from card to card.

As you pull the tab, it pulls the top heart back, revealing the second heart and so on. It’s really neat and fun to do!  I know this is probably easier to see than read.  I have been having a hard time questioning whether I should do more videos.  I just think there are so many people that do it well – why do I need to make them?  I guess I have some self-doubt, but I’m also just so overwhelmed by what a commitment it would take to make videos again.  Sorry to disappoint. 😦

Anyway, let me show you some photos consecutively so you can see what I mean:

It is all pretty straight forward as far as the die-cutting and embossing goes – but if you have any questions, please let me know below and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

XOXO,

Stacked Hearts

Hi Everyone!

I typically don’t make Valentine’s Day cards (except one for my husband and minor thing for my kids to pass out at school), but this year, I’ve been commissioned! My neighbor, Stephanie asked me to make 11 cards for her Bunco friends and my realtor friend asked me to make some for her – which I will share later this week – hopefully BEFORE Valentine’s Day (no promises) :D.

stacked-hearts-1

She said different designs – so I made two sets.  This first set is a watercolor set – and we all know no two cards are the same with watercolor. I used a variety of colors using Distress markers and Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers – brushing them on like slop and then misting them with some water until the ink reacted and moved.  While I love the Zig – I think the Distress Markers move a little less and is easier to control. I really need to use my markers more often than I do.

stacked-hearts

I get excited when I finally use products I’ve had a while.  I knew I wanted to use this Stacked Hearts die by Simon Says Stamp and I thought cutting it out in white to overlay a watercolor panel would be really pretty.  I got really lazy and used my Xyron creative station to add adhesive to them as well as the die-cut word love.  It might be just as annoying as apply glue to all those little spaces since the creative station sticker maker adhesive can get everywhere and you end up using an adhesive remover to clean everything up.  I need to remember that I have a bottle of adhesive spray that I should use! I then used the Because stamp set by MFT and stamped/embossed the sentiments in white on black cardstock to finish off the card. These cards were super pretty!

candy-hearts-1

This next set is using Simon Says Stamp’s Candy Hearts.  I’ve been wanting a stamp set like this for a while and while I know Valentine’s Day only comes once a year – the price point on this smaller stamp set is terrific!  I used my clarity brushes to add the soft falling hearts in the background using a stencil, then simply stamped all the hearts and words in the hearts. To finish off this simple “one-layer” card – I decided to add some stitching and a washi tape accent border.   That border really makes a huge difference!

candy-hearts

I was also commissioned last week to do something a little different.  My realtor friend is a part of a sales team and asked me to design covers for their notebooks.  Her team members reside in different regions all across North America so I got some information on what they liked and created these journals:

sales-9-notebooks

I got to put my handlettering to use and that was really fun but I was definitely in over my head with this project! There’s NO perfection when you’re free-handing things like this! It was a great experience and I definitely learned a lot!  Sorry this picture isn’t great.  I took individual photos but don’t want to blow up this post with them.  I’ll share Missy’s:

missys-notebook

Anyway – catch you all later this week to share Missy’s gliterry Valentine’s Day cards that she asked me to make!

After a week and a half of sickies and germs festering through my household – this girl needs to go to bed early! My body is aching!  Take care, everyone!

XOXO,

Bloomin’ Love

Hi Everyone!

I know this card seems late – but it was the first card I did for Splitcoastampers back in February for the theme Songs From The Heart. I chose the song “My Valentine” by Martina McBride and made my card using that inspiration.

I did a wash of watercolor using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers (why do these pens have such a long name?!) and I can’t even remember what color I used – any reddish pink will do though. The intricate die used here is from Stampin’ Up and I used some sponging to give it some color. The little coordinating flower dies were cut out using the same watercolor wash – I just covered what I cut up with the larger solid heart that you see. 🙂

Bloomin' Love - My Valentine 3

I think I overdid this card with the colors and shimmer – hehe. I even added diamonds and pearls!

Bloomin' Love - My Valentine 2

I gave this card to my husband for Valentine’s Day.  Not sure it would’ve been appropriate for anyone else because it just comes right back to me for storage…ha!

Bloomin' Love - My Valentine

Thanks for viewing – no hard judgments please! I’m being my worst critic right now. More of my Splitcoaststamper cards to come!

2016 Classroom Valentine’s Day Cards

Happy Birthday to my youngest, Liam! He’s 3 today! He wont be the youngest for much longer! Here’s a picture I posted on Instagram and Facebook this morning:

Liams 3rd Bday

Instead of making him a card he won’t enjoy or remember, I’ve spent the couple of nights working on Valentine’s Day cards for my older boys to take to school.  I’m 3 weeks early but that gives me a lot of time to do other crafting and I won’t have to worry about this down the road.

Also – an update! I took my 3 hour glucose test this past Tuesday and got my blood drawn 4 times – each blood draw came back below threshold so I am in the clear! Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers!

Oh! And Baby Lyla will be here in 10-11 weeks! EEEK!

2016 Class VDay 4

I made my kids Vday cards last year for the first time using patterned paper banner pieces and some simple stamping.  WHY I chose to do it again this year – I have no idea.  Kids don’t appreciate this craftsmanship and most likely, these will end up in the trash. I guess I want them to have something a little different that isn’t store bought and it wont be too long before Vday cards are no longer cool to pass out at school.  Evan of course, ooooos and awwws about them and absolutely loves it when I’m crafting – especially when it’s a project for him.

Aren’t these little mini notes adorable? Is it fun to die cut 70+ of these? No…lol. After I made my first 50 for my kids, I text’d my sisters to show them and they wanted some too – so I made more yesterday because I’m a complete pushover (or because I like to craft and them liking it makes me happy).

2016 Class VDay 3

For the heart, I used a Stampin’ Up! set called Bloomin’ Love – which is available now in their spring Occasions catalog. The sentiment is from a Hero Arts stamp and cut set called Love. I free stamped the hearts but used the MISTI tool for the sentiments to make sure they were straight.

2016 Class VDay 2

I punched some hearts to help the trifold mini notes stay together and to make them gender specific (boys don’t like hearts and pink…right?)

2016 Class VDay 1

I also stamped a heart and the word friend inside the trifold mini notes as a message because let’s face it – when they’re 6 and 9 – I’m hoping they are XOXO’ing anyone or asking anyone to “be mine.”

The video for this is really short – only 5  mins long if you’d like to watch it come together! Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day is over and now I get the opportunity to post a few cards and projects that have kept me busy the past week and a half. It’s so hard to refrain from posting when I’ve been so excited.

I want to start by saying that I have the most supportive, empathetic, sweet and patient husband, EVER – for me. Everyone claims they have the “best” husband but everyone has different needs. So I don’t want to say that my husband is better than anyone else’s – just that Stephen has been and IS my true companion in life. He’s been taking Liam to daycare this month, which allows me to work an extra 45 minutes every morning. I can’t expect anyone to have any idea how helpful that has been – but it’s made a tremendous difference in my day and how much overtime I can accomplish during the week – it add’s up! And during a few extra hours when he happens to get home early, he’s thoughtful enough to do build me things for my craft room!

I told him my handmade magazine holders were just fine, but he kept planning to make me this and I LOVE it! You can see how my paper was stored before to the right when he had only completed one paper tower. I butted up my punch holder to it and it is perfect.

paper tower 1

Here’s the finished set up (minus a few shelf boards):

paper tower 2

My upline, Cindy, told me to not store this units anywhere in direct sunlight because the paper color may fade, so one night, Stephen helped me rearrange my entire office/craft room.

ink storage

I got these basket-like magazine holders from the dollar section at Target and I think they separate everything nicely. My old gray rotary cutter is at the bottom. On top of that, a paper trimmer I got from Christmas (from my husband, of course).

Alright! Now – to share my two latest Valentine’s Day cards! The video tutorial can be found here. Dawn makes a template out of window sheets, but I made mine out heavy cardstock that I had on hand. She also used Stampin’ Up! white craft ink. I opted to go with StazOn white ink. I’m not sure why – but it works. I have to admit, I just didn’t pay enough attention to the details when I watched her video. Mine is not nearly as great as Dawn’s but it still turned out well. Here is the first card I made for my friend, Karen.

I started with a piece of white cardstock and sponged it with Pool Party ink in a x-like form. I took a picture of while doing a second card for my husband – here’s what I mean:

sponge

Then I sponged the rest in the main color. On this card, it’s Perfect Plum, which is also the color of the card base. I used heart framelits to cut out hearts in random places on a piece of heavy card stock in random places (3 to be exact) and started sponging the hearts in random places, at first more transparent and than more opaque to get the “bokeh” effect – like filters on a camera.

On the card I made for my husband, I used Tangelo Twist and Real Red. The sentiments are from the You Plus Me stamp set.

I’ve been working so much – my husband has not gotten a chance to get in my craft room to make a card for me. While I was working yesterday, he came in and made a card behind me while I was working my overtime. I think he did a great job! He used a stamp from the Painted Petals stamp set to create the dotted background and used some framelits to cut out the hearts. Isn’t he the sweetest?

Here’s a card I got from Karen. It’s sweet card made using the banner punch:

and a box card I got from my friend Jessica with a packet of hot cocoa:

20150214_192749

and some treats we got from my mother in law – made using the January Paper Pumpkin Kit. I got her a 3-month subscription for Christmas. I think they are such great gifts! Check out the website if you’re interested in these pre-packaged sets. It’s everything you need in a box for a cute monthly project if you don’t have time or money to invest in all of Stampin’ Up!’s products. Sometimes, it’s cards, sometimes its treat bags like these:

Classroom Valentine’s Day Cards

I know I said that I didn’t want to spend too much time making classroom Valentine’s Day cards this year, but I sat there thinking between my moments of distraction while working this week, that I could really simplify the process by using designer series paper (dsp) and limit my stamping and eliminate any coloring that would’ve been required with the initial set I wanted to buy/use for this process. I have a whole pack of the Stacked with Love dsp that I used in my previous card that may not get used again any time soon, so I decided I would make the kids’ Valentine’s Day cards with them.

I started by cutting out the card base – using one full 8.5×11 sheet and cutting into 8 equal pieces. I made 48 cards – enough for all the students in Noah and Evan’s classes. Then, I tore out one piece of each design from the Stacked with Love paper stack and randomly cut them into 1 inch strips.

Classroom Vday Cards

Then I used a 1″ square punch to punch out the corners to make them banners.

Classroom Vday Cards 1

I selected 3 stamps from the You Plus Me stamp set and one from a retired hostess set called Hello Love and stamped 4 different designs. Ahh!  SOOO cute!

Vday cards Collage

Classroom Vday Cards 2

In random fashion, I started putting banners together on cards. Each card ended up having 2 banners (some three to use up what was left).

Classroom Vday Cards 3

I could’ve stopped here, but then I decided I need to fill in the white space. I like to over-complicate things in this manner…

I selected 3 other stamps from the You Plus Me set and started stamping them randomly in dead spaces of each card. So much for limiting my stamping time, huh? Here is the final project!

Classroom Vday Cards 4

It hurts only a little thinking these are going in the trash after the holiday in 2 weeks. *sigh*

Did you think I’d stop here? Nope. I didn’t….

I had to add the to/from stamps on the back. But then I thought – “I bet my boys don’t want to write their names 24 times on these cards.” So I pulled out my Alphabet Rotary Stamp and also stamped their names. Here’s what the back of the cards look like with their names:

Classroom Vday Cards 5

I LOVE how this looks!

How did I find time for all this? Well…I cut the initial cardbase over a work break, then cut the dsp strips over a lunch break, then punched out the banners after work. After picking up Liam from daycare yesterday, I threw the banners on the cards. You see, I can only work quickly in 10-15 minute increments sometimes – but I try to be as efficient as possible. Then that night in front of the TV before bed, I adhered all the banners to the cards. This morning after I had completed my 4 hours of overtime and Liam was being a little angel, I got the chance to stamp the fillers. I left those to dry while I went to the store to pick up a birthday present for a birthday party the boys were going to today and with the 15 minutes I had left before we had to leave the house…I finished the backside of the cards. TOO much information? Maybe. But I guess the point I’m trying to get across is – you make time for the things that make you happy in life. This makes me happy. 🙂

I hope you enjoyed this! It was completely worth it to me – to imagine this and to make it happen. If you’re interested in any of the products on my site or via Stampin’ Up!, please let me know and I can help you place and order. If you decide to place your own order, I’d really appreciate it if you’d select me as your demonstrator! Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day, everyone!

Colors Used: Basic Black, Calypso Coral, Real Read, Pacific Point (Noah and Evan’s names)

You Plus Me

I’ve made a few Valentine’s Day cards this year using the You Plus Me set. It’s got lots of cute stamps in this set. So I thought I’d change up the color scheme and use the designer series paper (DSP) that I purchased to go with it. This paper stack is a set called Stacked with Love. It’s double sided with different designs and very versatile. I usually don’t use a whole lot of designer series paper, but I’m trying hard to incorporate new technique and designs.

The banners are made using my banner punch using one sheet of (DSP) – there are two designs bc I just flipped over the paper (as I mentioned, the paper is double sided with different designs). I used by Banner Framelits Dies to cut out the larger banners for layering and the only stamping I did on this card was the round sentiment that says “You + Me.” I also used a sentiment on the inside of the card that reads “Be Mine” from the same You Plus Me set.

You Plus Me W1

So simple…it feels like cheating.

You Plus Me W2

The string is just some simple pink twine. I also used my Itty Bitty Accents heart punch and punched out two hearts for the large banners – I thought it needed a little more.

You Plus Me W3

The DSP coordinates with Calypso Coral and is also the color I used for the card base and the sentiment on this card. You don’t need punches or banner framelits dies to make this card (what I used to tell myself before I wanted EVERYTHING in the catalog) – but it certainly makes it look uniform and nice!
