Unimaginable Courage

Hello Everyone!

I made this card two nights ago and realized this morning that I didn’t post it in time for Ellen Hutson’s pin sights challenge. DARN! I thought I had a few more days to right up this post. It’s ok, because I still want to share it! Ellen Hutson recently did a blog hop for this stamp set they released a few months ago to help fund the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I got the set to support the case and have already made cards using it, but I got inspired to use it again after seeing so many amazing cards and then again with the Pin Sights challenge on their blog.

Here is what they posted for inspiration:
October Pin Sights Challenge

If you know me…you’ll know that I tend to shy away from bold colors – or colors of such contrast as seen above.  But I tried!!!

Unimaginable Courage

I stamped a bunch of little images and die cut them using the dies that come with this set and layered them all around the ribbon.  The ribbon is also a die from this set!  So versatile since you can color it any color for whatever the cause is.

Unimaginable Courage 1

There is some dimension to this card.  The ribbon is propped up with foam tap and some of the flowers are also.

Unimaginable Courage 2

I LOVE this sentiment.  We’ve all been through some rough times and I’l have to admit I’ve been struggling a lot lately.  People always say “I don’t know how you do it all” and I just have to shrug…because I don’t know how to respond to that.  We are all doing our best, right?  Everyone’s struggles are different.  Doesn’t make one struggle comparable to another just as we can’t compare one person’s feelings to another’s.  Life is a struggle and that’s that.  We have to remember to have courage and be kind.  That’s how joy is found.

Unimaginable Courage 1

I finished it off with some clear Pretty Pink Posh droplets.  Hope you liked this card!

XOXO,

Adore You

Hi everyone!

This is my last card for the 30 day coloring challenge.  I didn’t color everyday with everything else going on, but I was motivated with this one – because one of these cards is headed to California.   I made a similar card during the last coloring challenge – with the flowers in purple and I get lots of pins on it – so I think it’s safe to say people like this style.

Adore You - Fushia 4

I colored many flowers and leaves and made a second card using the extra flowers.  The frames are different sizes and the dimensions are different on each card.  On the card above, the lower bottom left flower is propped up.

Adore You - Fushia 1

On this card, a few of the followers are propped up on top of the frame – which I really like.  I didn’t add a sentiment on this second card because I can add it when I find it’s use.

Adore You - Fushia Set 1

Regarding the My Favorite Things 2017 Superstar contest – I didn’t win.  There are always so many more talented entries than mine.  It’s ok…I’m not hurt about it.  Ok…maybe a tiny bit.  Who wouldn’t be disappointed, right?  Just means I need to try a little harder next year.  Or not do it at all because I thought I tried REALLY hard this year!

Hope you enjoyed these cards!  Have a wonderful week!

XOXO,

Enchanted Iris

Hi, Friends!

The 30 day coloring challenge is going on this month and I’ve been staying up late trying to color.  The My Favorite Things Superstar contest is also going on.  I’m trying to get some cards made for that.  I’m not as hopeful this year – someone slap me because I’m being a Debbie Downer!  One of the card themes is coloring.  While I have confidence in my coloring, I feel like there are not a lot of stamps that would really showcase my coloring.  Sure…there are lots of cute stamps – I just don’t know how to make them better than what others can do with coloring.  Some ideas or motivation would be nice!  Like this amazing iris stamp set by Altenew that I colored for Kathy Racoosin’s coloring challenge.  It’s really fun trying to recreate a flower!

IMG_1914

I colored this lily by Concord & 9th the other day…made a card and forgot to take pictures – so I’m sharing the image I posted on Instagram.  It’s really hard to make it look realistic!  I tried again with the Iris and am happier with how it turned out.  Here’s the image I used as inspiration:

I love coloring with Copics…and I LOVE irises!

Iris 2

I sponged the background with some distress ink in Tumbled Glass and added some sequins to finish off the card.  I feel like coloring is always 95% of my cards.  Once I have things colored, putting it together is so much fun!

Iris

I hope to share more cards as the month progresses – especially my MFT Superstar entries once I have them all done.  Last year, I posted them as I finished, but I think I need to take my time to execute them well.  Wish me luck!

See you all next time!

Bee-YOU-Tiful

Hello, Friends!

Seems like it’s been forever – but it’s mostly because I’ve waited three weeks to share this card!  I made it for a neighbor and long story short – she finally got it today and I can finally share.  Happy anniversary, Stephanie!  She’s got the sweetest husband who commissions me frequently for cards – seems like I’ve made more cards for her this year than anyone!

BeeYouTiFul 1

I love bees!  I have a tiny bee in a random stamp set but I’ve never seen stamps devoted to bees – so when Honey Bee Stamps released this one, I was super excited.  Pretty Pink Posh has a great one too – the set is smaller and so the price is a little better for anyone who is interested. 🙂

BeeYouTiFul

I dry embossed some honeycombs on the front panel and cut a window out.  Then I lightly sponged the top with some yellow to give the embossing some color.

BeeYouTiFul 3

I stamped and colored the images with my Copic markers then cut them out. Initially, I wanted to make a shaker card, but decided that this window looks beautiful and didn’t need more.  I REALLY love this card!  Details/supplies will be listed below.

I’ve spent a lot of time in the past few weeks practicing lettering and created a logo and bookmarks for my neighborhood book club.  We had our first meeting last week and I really think I’m going to enjoy it!  I always want to do too much but this will give me the opportunity to do something fun outside my house.  I thought I would share the logo and bookmarks with you:

Between The Covers Bookclub Logo

Nothing too fancy – I just printed them on 65lb cardstock and laminated them :).

I also made baby shower for my soon-to-arrive nephew.  I didn’t have much time so I kept it simple:

Gordon Baby Shower 1

That’s all I have for now!  My boys are starting school on Wednesday and I have a lettering project that I did for a neighbor that I will share next time.  Thanks for sticking it out with me!  Have a great week!

XOXO,

Fairy Garden Card in a Box

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to share my fairy card-in-a-box with you today!  These cards are seriously so fun to make and not every one will turn out the same – so many possibilities!

Fairy Card in a box 1

I made one for my neighbor to give to his wife and one to keep for myself.  I’m learning that it’s more time saving to go ahead and make at least 1 extra (in case you mess one up or want to have one for another occasion).  One of the most time consuming things is choosing colors and getting all the pieces cut – so if I can do double the amount of everything in one sitting, that’s a plus for me!

This is a horizontal card-in-a-box.  Here are the dimensions that you will need for a card that fits in an A2 envelop (card size:  4.25″ x 5.50″):

Base:  4.25″ x 12″

With your base sitting horizontally, score at 2″, 5.50″, 7.50″, AND 11″

Turn you base 90 degrees so that it is now sitting vertically and score it at 2″

You will want at least 2 inserts:  4 11/16″ x 1″, scored at 5/8″ from each end to fit inside the box.

I know I have mad skills when it comes to drawing using the Paint tool…but don’t laugh at me.  Here’s a visual for those of you who like to see it:

Horizonal Card in a Box Image

The “dotted” lines are what you want to cut for the flaps on your box card.  You’ll also want to cut away the gray areas in the image – saving only a small tab at the bottom of the box to adhere and construct your box.

Fairy Cuttings.JPG

I cut out some grassy borders for the two tabs and them started gluing everything on in random places until I was happy.

Fairy Card in a Box

The final thing was matting the box – you can do this however you like.  I had lots of extra pieces so I used them to decorate the front panel.  When closed up, The box is plain – I didn’t feel the need to make the card bulkier by adding more patterned paper – but feel free to do whatever makes you happy!

Fairy Card in a box 2

I hope you enjoyed this card!  It really makes me happy 🙂

XOXO,

Sweet 16th

Hi Everyone!

I made a simple sweet 16th birthday card over the weekend with some simple stamping and die-cutting that I’d like to share.  I haven’t gotten a chance to stamp much lately.  My kids are out of school and it seems like the little energy I have is being sucked out of me. I have poured many many hours over researching watercolors.  I spent a lot of time on an excel sheet and staring at Daniel Smith watercolors (once I convinced myself that I wanted them over Winsor & Newton watercolors).  I’ll share all that when I am able to take pictures of the set up – they arrive tomorrow!

Happy 16th- 1

A neighbor (of course), asked me to make a card so I did.  I can’t get too creative these days so I’ve been making cards by request and remaking similar cards to what I’ve done in the past.  I don’t get a chance to use Stampin’ Up! stamps too much anymore so it was nice to pull out this stamp set.  Just layered stamping here with some sponging in the background in green.

Happy 16th

That’s all!  Just a quick share.  I’ll have a lot more to share once my new watercolor palette is set up.  I can’t wait!

XOXO,

caly-sig

Mother’s Day 2017

Happy Mother’s Day, Crafting Friends!

Hope you’re having a wonderful day!  I should’ve shared these cards sooner but it’s been a busy couple of days and lots of activities.  I had my 10 year college reunion the other night…that makes me feel old, but it was a lot of fun!    I want to quickly share a few cards that I made for Mother’s Day as well as a a little project I did for Teacher’s Appreciation week.

  1.  Floral Card in a Box (click on images to zoom)

I’ve made these a few times in the past year – their a favorite for my next door neighbor ;).  There are lots of tutorials on Pinterest and YouTube.  Here’s my last blog post here and the link to the video I used:  https://craftincaly.wordpress.com/2016/09/19/floral-40th-card-in-a-box/

  2. Freehand Florals (click on images to zoom)

This is simple layered stamping – but I love the bouquet look.  The stamp set is called Freehand Florals and you can view it here.  I embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder on black cardstock and added sequins to finish off the card.

  3. Second Generation SpotLight (click on images to zoom)

As soon as I saw Jennifer McGuire’s video on this last week using the new Ellen Hutson’s Courage stamp set to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, I had to try this technique for myself.  I don’t have that stamp set yet (but I did order it this morning) – so I used the same Freehand Florals set from above and it turned out sooooo beautifully!  You can view Jennifer’s blog post with video here.

  4. Cross-stitched Roses

This stamp set by Waffle Flowers called Stitched Roses is amazing!  I spent a lot of time lining up these layering images….my OCD killed me but it turned out looking so relistic!  You can find the awesome stamp set here.  I used a simple border die and some sequins to keep the card simple.  It’s so pretty!

  5. Teacher Appreciation – Cupcake Liner Flowers

Last week was Teacher Appreciation week.  On Thursday night…I got a text from Evan’s friend’s mom asking if I had any paper flowers lying around.  It was bedtime and there was a situation/possible meltdown because crafting was not going so well in their home.  She wanted to make a project for her teacher and so I got excited at the chance to make some flowers so I went all out!  I followed this tutorial by Lia Griffith and made these cute flowers using cupcake liners and pencils.  I decorated some cardstock to wrap around a small jar and it turned out so cute.  The gift card was something I quickly stamped to hold gift cards for my boys’ teachers.

That’s all for now!  Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

XOXO,

Caly
