Money Slider Card + My Foiling Failures

HI Everyone!

I had some major frustrations the other day trying to use foiling on my latest project. I made a slider money holder for my sister with every intent to use foiling on it and it turned out to be a major FAIL. But failures teach us things so I thought I would share what I did and how it turned out.

But first, here’s the money holder for my sister:

I was so frustrated with the foiling failures – I don’t know how much luck others have but everything I tried did not work and I did them just as Jennifer McGuire showed on her videos!

The first thing I tried was embossing the sentiment in Superfine Clear WOW embossing powder. I ran it through my swingline laminator twice:

The second attempt was with Stampin’ Up!’s Heat & Stick Powder. I also ran this through the laminator twice. It had better coverage, but the heat really smushed the adhesive:

The third and final attempt was using the Heat & Stick Powder. I activated it like previously with a heat tool, but I did not run it through the laminator. It worked a little better than clear embossing powder, but still inadequate coverage.

I know I’m using a standard paper laminator – but Jennifer McGuire makes it look so fool-proof! Definitely did not work for me! Please tell me if you’ve tried this with a standard laminator and if it worked well for you. OR…if you have the Heidi Swapp Minc machine and it works great for you – I’d love to hear some testimonials. The reviews on Amazon are not convincing to me that I should invest in it. GRRR…bc I have lots of foil I’d like to use up. I need to try different adhesives too, I suppose.

Anyway…after all those failures, I went with traditional heat embossing – which is fool-proof for me!

Wedding Money Slider Card

This has been a long week! My husband and I “celebrated” our 11th anniversary yesterday and my sister is getting married tomorrow. We’re doing so much for the wedding that we really didn’t have time to do anything for each other besides have dinner together…a big THANKS to my friend Jessica for watching my 3 boys!

If you’d like to watch my many failures and how I created this money slider card, you can watch my video here:

Lace Wedding Card

Seems to be a year of weddings for me. This is my 4th card – but it was actually requested by a coworker who liked a card I made previously. I made this card a while ago in pink (Blushing Bride) and you can see the original post here. I quickly made this card yesterday and thought I would share it with you today.

I Love Lace WeddingIt’s so pretty and I really love the lace.

A Wedding Card for Hannah Grace

This is last wedding card I’m making as far as I know, so I wanted to have a little fun with it. I cased this card and the original post can be found here.

I got some Something Borrowed Designer Series paper just for this. This paper is so simple and elegant and is perfect for weddings. The primary stamp set I used was For The New Two. The “Congratulations” sentiment and flower bundle on the tag front is from Your Perfect Day – a retired wedding set.

The basic concept is a Z Fold – a landscaped 4.25″ x 5.5″ card base that is folded in half again on the front flap only. Then I cut another card base that is 7.5″ x 3.25″ (folded in half). Both card bases sections are matted with white card stock and/or with the Something Borrowed paper. I just randomly stamped things here and there and I think it turned out pretty nicely. čśÇ

My friend Karen has mentioned many times that she tries to use something from the wedding invitation to incorporate into her cards, so I tried to do that here using the piece on the center of the card that says “Hannah & Grant” to personalize it a bit for the couple.

There is another piece – made using the Tag Topper Scallopped Punch┬áthat is used to hold the card together. It could’ve been longer but mine is cut to 2″ x 3.5″ and punched.

It’s such a sweet card and love all the different pieces that came together for it. Happy wedding day, Hannah! Wishing you MANY years of love and happiness!

For The New Two

There are 3 weddings coming up this May – only one of which we can attend. So I got busy after some much needed Caly-time today to make some. This first one I created is for my friends, Jessica and Eric, who I also made bridal shower invites and a banner for previously. I wanted to carry over the lace theme to make it all cohesive for them. So I chose Blushing Bride as my card base. This time, I used Blushing Bride ink┬áto stamp the I Love Lace┬ábackground stamp on Whisper White card stock cut to 4″x 5.25″.

I also cut a piece of vellum to this same size to layer on top of the laced piece. On the vellum, I stamped a sentiment from the For The New Two wedding stamp set using Jet Black Stazon Ink┬á(his ink is permenant and is great for stamping on vellum). It’s so elgant!

I got some pink twine with gold accent (I’m reusing from the Valentine’s My Paper Pumpkin Kit that I got from my mother in law) and used it to bring the vellum and lace piece together. There was nothing else holding down the vellum piece so I decided to add two gold brads as well.

I never really know how something is going to turn out and I think this is as much as I can do with this card without overdoing it! I think Jessica will love it!
